Hi, RJCwake! Thank you for your question. This tub spout is only designed for a slip-on connection to a 1/2" smooth copper pipe with the set screw as seen on page 5 module 2 C-1 of the maintenance and installation manual (link below). The o-ring inside the tub spout will provide a proper seal.
