I believe Yamaha should be responsible for this. I've had bikes since 1964 and have never had a motor that needed the valves adjusted every 4000 miles. Common issue i had when i first got my 1300 was I would shift too fast and be in 5th in city and bike would lug the engine. The Vstar will run in city in 5th gear at a constant speed but I don't. first gear will easily run up to 35mph/50km without shifting but i wouldn't run it that way unless your in a hurry.. first gear about 20 mph/ 35km ...The reason for shifting down is: you panic stop in a dangerous situation and you may need to take off quickly again from the stop - bike needs to be in 1st gear. or you stop the bike and put your feet down, and now you have to pick up your left foot and find 1st gear before the bike can start moving.Jun 27, 2018 ...
